Pilates with Cindy Ackley
Pilates is a form of exercise that helps to build flexibility, strength, endurance, and coordination. Mat Pilates consists of a gentle warm-up and progresses to a series of focused floor exercises. Pilates is used to strengthen the body’s core or powerhouse (stomach) as well as strengthening your spine/back. Emphasis is given to proper form, use of breath and whole body awareness.
About Cindy
I have been teaching at various locations throughout Westerville for three years. I first stumbled upon Pilates when a former co-worker and friend asked me to take this new type of exercise class that all the celebrities were doing. If you know me, you will know that I don’t like to exercise and I really don’t like to sweat. Additionally, I have zero coordination so aerobics classes aren’t an option for me.
For the reasons above, I was very skeptical about taking the class, but I thought what the heck, all I can do is make a fool out of myself in front of a bunch of people I’ll probably never see again. I was pleasantly surprised that I enjoyed myself. The fact that I didn’t have to have my arms and legs doing things at separate times in totally different directions was defiantly a plus for me.
I liked it so much that I took Pilates for about four years, then when the teacher that I liked decided to stop teaching, I tried a few different places in town and I really didn’t like how they taught. So for a couple of different reasons, I decided to get my own certification and teach which is what I have been doing since early 2005.
