YOGA CLASSES
Beginning Yoga
A slow, steady approach provides beginners
with basic instruction in alignment as well
as time to ease into poses through yogic
breathing. The Beginning class is for anyone
at any level who wants to get back to
basics, not only those who are new to yoga.
Hatha Yoga
Hatha Yoga classes are
moderately paced, with instruction in
alignment of the body and flow of energy. We
learn a range of standing, sitting,
balancing, and back-bending poses to connect
the breath with movement through deep, full
yogic breathing. All levels are welcome.
Vinyasa Yoga
Vinyasa Yoga is a flowing
practice that links movement with the
breath. We explore variations on familiar
poses and introduce advanced poses such as
arm balances, inversions, and back bends.
Vinyasa is ideal for Ashtangis who seek
variety in a flowing practice. Some
experience with Vinyasa, Ashtanga, or Hatha
Flow is preferred.
Ashtanga Yoga
This course takes students
through a sequence of postures specifically
designed to allow a fuller experience of the
breath. Each week, students explore either
forward- or backward-bending postures,
varying the practice to expose students to a
variety of postures. Emphasis is on
appropriate alignment in each pose. Ashtanga
students keep moving in a series of postures
linked by sun salutations, with
modifications to meet the needs of each
student. Previous yoga experience is
recommended.
Restorative Yoga
Restorative yoga, also known
as “active relaxation,” uses props to
support the body in poses to allow for
complete relaxation. A restorative practice
releases energy blockages in the nadis
(energy channels) more passively than
traditional asanas and can be especially
useful when experiencing stress, fatigue, or
when healing from an injury. Restorative
yoga produces the “relaxation response”
which can regulate brain waves, digestion,
and blood pressure.
